'Tame All Those Thoughts' ★★½
Churning out two albums in as many years is a credit to the ambition of Made in Japan, but whether the quality of this sophomore release reflects their talent remains to be seen. The throbbing percussion and pace of opener, Community, diminishes all too soon and leaves eight more tracks that could easily lull you into a state of semi-consciousness. It features no shortage of distorted guitars and synths, with the laidback drawl of James Cooney injecting some life to the instrumentation but failing to break the monotony. Memorable tracks include the meandering nine-minute sojourn, Follow the Fool, and Always Here, which is by far their most energetic contribution. As a whole, the album does more as a backing soundtrack than as any sort of fodder for the avid listener or lyricist. There are glimpses of goodness, but not enough to excite.
